I installed the Univention Corporate Server (UCS) a few weeks ago. UCS is a server operating system derived from Debian GNU/Linux. The good point of UCS is that it has an integrated management system for the central and cross-platform administration of servers, services, clients, desktops and users as well as virtualized computers operated in UCS.
So far, UCS, works great. The installation of the operating system is straight forward., like all installs you have to enter a few configuration options and you are all set. The OS also takes a few minutes to update itself, if you do select to do so. I also installed a plugin Nagios Core – it’s used to monitor the server’s service and other network components. It alerts one went things break. So far, I have UCS and Nagios in a very basic install – using it as a testing lab.
Overall, this server software is very impressive., its well developed. It’s a very good solution for cooperate environments, but, it does work for home, small to mid size businesses. I recommend it.
